Great News From OWWA TO OFWs—Free Transportation?

OWWA or Overseas Workers Welfare Administration is, according to its website, an agency attached to Department of Labor and Employment. This agency's responsibility is to protect and promote the welfare and well-being of all Overseas Filipino Workers or OFWs, including their dependents.

This interesting email, sent to me by a friend, is about the free transportation or special ride for all OFWs from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport to any point in the Philippines. This is OWWA's move to show that they do care for our beloved OFWs.

I just learned that OFWs need to pay a membership fee of at least $25 (as of 2007 report) to the OWWA's office before they leave the country to work abroad. This fee is said to fund an insurance scheme that would assist OFWs when they need medical service.

Okay I'm not going to further talk about the core responsibilities of OWWA or add another definition for OFWs.

All OFWs, when they come home, can benefit from this free ride offered by OWWA. In spite of the ongoing economic crisis, our government managed to pay tribute to all hard working Filipinos abroad.

The picture is the test run for the free ride service offered by OWWA to all OFWs.

Free Ride: From OWWA to OFW Although the purpose of this email is to lighten up the mood of all serious recipients, this free ride is surely an environment-friendly transportation.

Why They Are Successful With Adsense And Why I Failed? – And Goodbye Michael Jackson

I have probably read a lot of articles about how to become successful with Google Adsense. I think I have implemented some on my two blogs, but it's still difficult to reach the minimum payout of $100 (PHP 4,000+).

According to expert bloggers, there are no instant tricks to become successful in using Google Adsense. But there are things I can do to enhance my participation with Google Adsense. They added that a blog should be search engine optimized. Hmmm, I probably failed on this part. Furthermore, they also recommended to work on the backlinks and increase Google PageRank (okay but I cannot control these). It is also important to create a site or a blog that will talk about blogging, computers, Internet and Google Adsense. The target readers should be people who do not know anything about the above mentioned topics. Sheesh.

They also advised to choose a group of keywords to make it as marketing words. It is also imperative, as they say, to write unique content relevant to the group of keywords. Plus, place the Google Adsense code on the top right corner of your blog/site or place it where it is visible for the readers, they further added.

But a friend told me not to worry about it since blogging is just my pastime… true. So I'll just continue writing stuff about a variety of topics that I like until Google Adsense is ready to send me my payout.

Also, I still cannot believe the news that I have read/heard this morning—Michael Jackson died. It just doesn’t feel real.

Amidst the controversies and scandals before his death, he will still be remembered as the person who started moonwalking and crotch-grabbing as part of dance moves. He visited the Philippines in the late '90s. Thanks for this song MJ, one of my favorites… Gone Too Soon.

Like A Comet Blazing 'Cross The Evening Sky Gone Too Soon
Like A Rainbow Fading In The Twinkling Of An Eye Gone Too Soon
Shiny And SparklyAnd Splendidly BrightHere One DayGone One Night
Like The Loss Of Sunlight On A Cloudy Afternoon Gone Too Soon
Like A Castle Built Upon A Sandy Beach Gone Too Soon
Like A Perfect Flower That Is Just Beyond Your Reach Gone Too Soon
Born To Amuse, To Inspire, To Delight Here One Day Gone One Night

Urgent: iPhone 3G S Or Ericsson T68

iPhone 3G S
Ericsson T68

My Ericsson T68 is still alive. iPhone 3G S has been released this month but I am still using Ericsson T68. It's now 2009 and more than seven years after the release of Ericsson T68, yet I am still stuck with it.

I have two reasons for sticking with Ericsson T68. First, Ericsson T68 has all the features that I needed in a phone: send/receive SMS/MMS and phone calls. iPhone 3G S has additional features that I clearly don't have use for. Second, Ericsson T68 is cheaper than iPhone 3G S.

Plus, I can place it anywhere I want. I can keep it inside my pouch. Then, I don't have to worry if I leave it unattended in a public place because no one will dare steal it. But if I own iPhone 3G S, Mr. Theft's eyes are all over my phone. I cannot place it inside my tiny pouch because of fear of blemishing it.

To give myself a peace of mind, I'd rather stick with Ericsson T68 than to please my cravings for iPhone 3G S... although I am saving money for iPhone 3G S.

PLDT myDSL-- Where Is My Bill?

For three months now, I have not received my bill from PDLT myDSL (but I still pay on time). When I inquired about it a month ago, I was advised to patiently wait for it because they are experiencing courier problem... but no bill arrived.

Also, their website is inutile. Why? It is because of its 99% promotional ads and only 1% allotted for customer service, if they know what customer service is.

I want to register my PLDT myDSL account online to access my bill. However, every time I try to register and hit the submit button, I always receive system error. What's wrong with this company?

PLDT, a telecommunications provider whose monthly income is PHP 9.6 billion, cannot establish their own courier service to deliver bills. Ukininam!

PLDT myDSL:

Pros: None

Cons:
-Slow connection
-Inutile customer service
-Only good at advertising their products but failed on actual service.

My advice: Find a better provider, if you can. (I can't so I'll just stick with its ineffectiveness until I can find a better one.)

Best Buy Gift Card For Father's Day 2009

Best Buy Gift Card

(Image from Flickr.com)-- Besides the Father's Day gift ideas recommended by pcmag.com, Best Buy gift card is also a neat idea. Best Buy gift card is used to redeem non-monetary gift from the company—Best Buy.

How can I get Best Buy gift card for Father's Day? Hmmm… I have two options, actually. First, I have to purchase Best Buy products and sign up for rewards membership. Or I can buy a Best Buy gift card myself ($5-$500).

When I already have the above mentioned gift card, I have to earn some points in order to receive certain gifts or promos. Best Buy gift card will also allow me to get discounts and other perks associated with it.

But I have a problem. If I were to purchase Best Buy gift card and give it to my father as a gift for Father's Day, I'm not sure if he could use the card in the Philippines... (wondering)

Prison Break: The Final Break

Wentworth Miller
The negativity of captivity-- Okay, I really thought that the 22nd episode of Prison Break was the final break. But I was wrong, yet again. The producer/s or staff of Prison Break released the final break a week after the 22nd episode.

Prison Break, The Final Break is the last and final episode of Prison Break that lasted for 1 hour and 23 minutes. In this episode, it showed the events that happened right after they were exonerated, and not 4 years after.

Synopsis: Michael and Sara got married. During the wedding reception, Sara was arrested for killing Christina Hampton/Scofield. Because the case filed against her was strong enough that the defense lawyer had a hard time to bail her out. So what did Michael Scofield do to help his one true love? – Break her out of prison.

I thought Michael died of brain tumor. But the Final Break said otherwise. He died of electric shock while saving Sara from prison. It's a sad story but even if he and Sara would get out of prison alive, he still won't live any longer.

As for Wentworth Miller, he's been rumored to appear in a movie called Bioshock due in 2010. I'll just have to wait for that.

Megan Fox And Her Clubbed Thumb

Megan Fox clubbed thumb
Finally, I'm not alone in this world. Twenty thousand people (and counting) are also curious about Megan Fox's thumb/s. Even Mike Krumboltz had something to say about Megan Fox's unattractive clubbed thumb (short thumb and bulbous at the end). I first saw it on The Transformers when my friend, who was sitting beside me, reacted with a comment -- "Eew, awful thumb."

Although Megan Fox is undeniably sexy with seductive eyes, but she, like everybody else, has flaws.

For instance, Gisele Bundchen is labeled as the sexiest and the most beautiful person on earth... but only when she wears her makeup. When she doesn't, she looks like an old lady with a horse-face.

These celebrities, including Megan Fox, are not perfect but because of science (and photoshop) their physical/body flaws are hidden or removed to make them more appealing or attractive to people.

Eliminate Swine Flu Plus Happy Independence Day

Philippine Flag

(Image from doomet.com) When will swine flu going to stop or how to eliminate swine flu? I don’t know. Since it's caused by a virus, specifically influenza A H1N1 virus, antibiotic cannot be used to fight against it. But I guess boosting immune system can help to eliminate swine flu.

As of date, the Philippines has pegged 92 confirmed cases of swine flu.

In Asia alone:
Hong Kong – as of Thursday, 61 cases of swine flu has already been reported.
Australia- on late Wednesday has reported 1,275 cases of AH1N1.
New Zealand has 27 cases.
Malaysia has a total of 11 cases of swine flu virus.

Worldwide: 27, 737 in 74 countries

…and counting. Source The Canadian press

I just hope that the Department of Health's plan of putting up a Polymerase Chain Reaction laboratory will push through so that the specimen will no longer have to travel elsewhere. This will definitely speed up the process. The personnel for the said laboratory will undergo rigid training under the supervision of the DOH.

On the other hand, Happy 111th Philippine Independence Day on June 12, 2009—ako mismo!

Maldives Plan Trip: The Sunny Side Of Life

Male,Maldives
Since summer is over in the Philippines, it's time for me to make a plan trip to Maldives—the sunny side of life.

Why Maldives? Visa is not required, at least for 30 days. Upon arrival though, foreigners, like me, will be given an entry permit. By the way, Male is the capital city of Maldives.

What am I going to do in Maldives? A lot. I can go surfing, diving, whale and dolphin watching, and underwater photography. Okay, I know that I can do these things in the islands of the Philippines, but Maldives will give me a different experience.

How to go to Maldives? By plane. The cheapest airfare I found cost PHP 32,900 ($635)—from Ninoy Aquino International Airport to Male International, Male, Maldives. So the said airfare plus extra cash of perhaps $500… hmmm, I think I'd rather stay in the Philippines and spend a few days in Palawan.

Gift Ideas For Father's Day Plus Hayden Camera

On the 21st of June, most countries, including the Philippines, will celebrate Father's day-- the day for the best dads. I'm pondering on the possible gift I can give to my father. Fortunately, pcmag.com's newsletter came at the right time. They did not only give me gift ideas but they also left me wondering how to get hold of the products they presented, considering my tight budget.

Toshiba 22AV500U LCD TV

First gift idea for father's day they suggested: Toshiba 22AV500U LCD TV

Pros:
-Full-featured HDTV for small space.
- Can be used as computer monitor.
- Toshiba is a trusted brand.

Cons:
- Expensive

Price: PHP 20,000+ ($425+)

120GB Microsoft Zune MP3 player

The next product they recommended: 120GB Microsoft Zune MP3 player

Pros:
-Friendly interface.
-Audio/Video podcast support.
-Built-in composite-video output.

Cons:
-Expensive
.

Price: PHP10,000 ($212+)

RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 Smartphone

The last suggested gift idea for father's day: RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900 Smartphone

Pros:
-480x360-pixel screen.
-Wi-Fi plus 3.2 megapixel camera
-GPS

Cons:
-Expensive and father doesn’t need a phone like this. He'd rather stick with his current Nokia 3220.

Price: PHP 28,000+ ($595+)

That said, I guess it would leave me running to the grocery section and buy some ingredients for Biko, an inexpensive gift idea on Father's Day. :)

How To Know If Product Review Is Unbiased?

Unbiased Product Reviews

Nowadays, it's hard to trust product reviews written and published on the Internet. Some of them are compensation-based; others are unbiased reviews.

Yesterday, I was searching for unbiased reviews about a certain product. Unfortunately, 8 out of 10 sites I visited were affiliated reviews or biased reviews. Although they've written their pros and cons, it is still obvious they are luring potential buyers to click on the link.

So, how did I know that the product review I was reading was a compensation-based review? Simple. By hovering over the link, I saw a long string of codes at the status bar.

Biased Review: www.justanexample.com/b=affiliatelinkid=3825
Unbiased Review: www.justanexample.com/index.php

Simply put, an affiliate link will always have an "id" included in the string of codes.

Or I can go to sites like amazon.com and read submitted reviews by the actual users (some customer ratings are harsh and sarcastic).

FYI: From now on, no more sponsored posts on this site. :)

Prince Harry And His First Official Visit To The US Of A

Prince Harry in the USA
I grabbed this picture from news.yahoo.com. This is just one of the pictures taken during Prince Harry's official visit to the USA. Who would have thought Prince Harry would be this friendly to children? I'm not a big fan of this red-faced prince named Prince Harry, brother of Prince William. But after my discussion with a friend, I'm beginning to look at the other side of Prince Harry.

He's not as good looking as his brother William. There's no doubt about that. But he has different charisma that I cannot explain it through words. He may have tainted image before but now he's trying to change it by being more responsible (?). I wonder when he's going to visit the Philippines.
